Yes, You CAN Hardwire Vocal Mics
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve had to be concerned about RF happenings as I relinquished my RF coordinating responsibilities when I left my staff position a couple years ago. I’ve still been keeping an eye on everything that’s happening in the 600 MHz auction, though, and Shure recently put together a great little video that kind of sums up what’s going on.
It looks like Shure is also doing a rebate program if you would like to turn over any 600 MHz gear and purchase new stuff. Information on the rebate program can be found HERE.
Just remember that you don’t need to use wireless mics for everything. Most churches tend to use wireless vocal mics because it is convenient and not because they actually need things wireless. So before you go spending money to replace wireless gear, perhaps a better first step would be to take some time and reevaluate your actual wireless needs. While RF technology has improved, hardwired mics still tend to sound better at a fraction of the cost of a good wireless system.
